Amidst the COVID-19 lockdown, international footballer and coach Roko Angami has picked up farming activities in his native village Zhadima under Kohima district.

“During this lockdown period, I have learnt more aspects of agricultural plantations,” said Roko, who is also president of Nagaland Football Coaches Association.

Born and brought up from a farmer’s family, Roko started his farm 8 years ago at Zhadima. Recently, worried over the famine like situation in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, his attention expanded significantly towards the agri and allied sectors.

Alongwith plantations of Orange, Mango, Litchi, Papaya, Banana, Lemon etc, Roko also grows different types of vegetables around the paddy fields.

Roko also took up onion cultivation in the early part of this year. He is expecting a good harvest. “At this moment, I prefer to cultivate onion since it can bring good price,” he smiled. His farm also features a fishery pond and his tree plantation area is spread over 15 hectare.

Staying at Pezielietsie colony in Kohima with wife Khrienei-ii and their 3 children, Roko said “As and when I get free time, I rush down to my farm house and work there to stay physically fit and healthy.”

In a small playground at his farm, he also spends leisure time with kids and friends by playing football, badminton/volleyball etc.

Roko encouraged young people to come out from their comfort zone and involve themselves in agricultural activities.
