Iodine Deficiency Disorder Prevention Day observed in Wokha

Wokha, October 25 (MExN): Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder Prevention Day was observed at CMO Conference hall Wokha on October 23. Delivering the keynote address, Dr CW Tungoe, Chief Medical Officer Wokha stressed on the importance of iodine intake in one’s diet for proper function of the human body.


He further added that deficiency of iodine leads to mental retardation, stunted growth, speech and hearing impairment, fetal death and goitre. Demonstration of salt analysis was done by Block ASHA Co-ordinators Zuchanbeni and Mhonlumi.


Salt test kits were later distributed among the participants. Dr N Mhonchan Kithan, DNO, NIDDCP briefed the participants on various activities carried out by the department to create awareness in schools, restaurants, daily markets, godowns, villages, churches etc. The programme was earlier chaired by Block ASHA Co-ordinator Supenro. President and secretary of colony Eloe Hohos, ASHAs, DPM and DCM attended the programme.
