Irregular network service affecting bank functions, online classes in Tening

Peren, February 24 (MExN): The All Nchangram Students' Union (ANSU) Peren has given an ultimatum of 14 days (2 week’s time) to the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to provide ‘uninterrupted power backup’ in Tening town.

ANSU President Kibouwi Zeliang told The Morung Express that the poor BSNL telecommunication facility in Tening has been causing massive inconvenience to the people in the area.

Despite repeated appeals to the concerned department, the service conditions show no improvement, he shared.

Banking functions disrupted
The BSNL network reportedly gets completely cut off in the event of an electrical supply disruption. This had affected the working of the lone State Bank of India (SBI) branch in the area.

There is constant power failure in the area, which affects the smooth functioning of banking system of SBI at Tening town, the ANSU stated in a press statement issued on February 19.

“The banking system of SBI at Tening town is solely dependent on the BSNL network. Therefore in the absence of BSNL Network, normal activities of the bank are totally disrupted,” ANSU said in its statement.

Kibouwi mentioned that people from far-flung villages, some of who walk all the way to Tening town for their bank related work, face the brunt of the constant service outage.

Online classes affected
Further, the Union stated that majority of the students in the area rely on the BSNL network to attend their online classes.

Due to constant network failure, the daily routine/chores of students are also adversely affected to a great extent, it highlighted.
In the event of Network failure, the daily routine/chore of students is also badly affected to a great extent.

Despite being one of the oldest towns in the State, Tening town has been “abandoned and left behind in terms of facilities provided by the Government,” the ANSU rued.

In this regard, the ANSU has issued the 14-day ultimatum to BSNL to “immediately install an ‘uninterrupted battery backup’ to be used in the area 24x7 in the absence of electricity within 14 days.”

It cautioned that in case of failure to comply with the demand, the ANSU would initiate its own course of action.

“In the event of any untoward incident caused, the Union should not be held responsible under any circumstances,” it added.
