DIMAPUR, JANUARY 14 (MExN): NSCN/GPRN chairman, Isak Chishi Swu, and general secretary, Th. Muivah, have expressed surprise that the Government of India should prevent them from going to Zunheboto to seek the support and understanding of the people.
The two leaders were addressing the media Saturday morning at Camp Hebron before their scheduled visit to Zunheboto, which failed to materialize. “It is the correct philosophy of the Naga people that any solution has to be with the support of the Naga people, because we are a democratic people. When we seek understanding of the people, what is wrong?” Muivah asked and said that any solution is possible only when people support it.
“It is our obligation to tell Naga people to understand us and that is what people are expecting from us,” he said and added that it is also their responsibility to tell the people the positive steps taken by GOI for solution.
“We are not going to Zunheboto to teach them how to fight Indians or others but how to bring about peaceful solution. We don’t understand why GOI does not appreciate this,” Muivah said.
In similar vein, NSCN/GPRN chairman Isak Swu said, “It is very important to meet our people and tell them how far we have being doing for our people.” Swu also said the proposed visit was to share with the people the positive steps taken by both sides for a solution.
Asked on the “positive steps” taken by GOI, the NSCN leaders said the first and foremost step was recognition of the “unique history” of the Nagas, and added solution has to be based on this commitment. On Swu’s earlier expectation of a possible solution by 2012, Muivah said, “t is not wrong on the part of our chairman to have that kind of expectation. We have realistic and positive approach.”
