Top Greenhouses Ltd, an Israel-based agriculture firm said they are here to explore the possibilities of improving agriculture and horticulture products of Nagaland according to local conditions and situation.

The two officials, Amit Tzur, Managing Director, and Rajeeb Roy Country Manager (India), who were here on a two days visit at the invitation of the state government, have visited several agriculture producing places in the state during their two days stay.  “We are impressed because the production here is unique. It is 100% organic, which is very important and popular in the world today”, Amit said.

It was informed that the duo had discussions with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and other department officials, and would be presenting their entire programme by next week, including budget. The firm would concentrate on improving the existing local crops according to local conditions, find best market in India as well as abroad, improve quality packaging, augment local system of irrigation and fertilizers, and set up horticulture training institute in the state.

Besides, Top Greenhouses will also concentrate on upgrading open field cultivation. Local crops that the firm is likely to venture into are beans, tomatoes, straw berries, pineapple, passion fruits, chilly and orange and Naga cucumber.

The firm would also include floriculture projects in the long list of their programme.

“You have the best pineapple, but 99% of the world does not know this. Our target is to bring brand name for Nagaland and market it to places where it is not known by tying up with super market” said Rajeeb Roy. Top Greenhouses Ltd has its branches in 26 countries including India.

However, active operation in India started only six months ago. At present the firm is engaged in 5 projects, four in Bangalore and one in Pune. The projects consist of herbs (basil) and rose cultivations. Export of some of its produces are being made to European countries, said Amit.
