The Eastern Entertainment Cultural and Aesthetic Society (EECAS), district partner under Task Force for Music and Arts, Government of Nagaland screened an Israeli movie in collaboration with Embassy of Israel, India at Cozy Corner Café, Tuensang on October 19.
The movie screening was organized in all the districts of Nagaland by the district partners under TaFMA.
In Tuensang the event was attended by children of Bethel Children’s Home, Tuensang and youths of Tuensang Town Baptist Lashong – Selounyu Sector.
Two movies were screened at the venue, the first an Israeli movie Abulele which is about a boy who struggles at home and at school with bullies after his brother is killed. When he befriends and shelters a mythical creature by the name Abulele, it helps him outsmart his tormenters and overcome his grief.
Senmang, an Ao Naga dialect movie which translates ‘Inheritance’ was also screened at the venue. The movie is about a family of three daughters whose father has passed away and has to fight for their rights over their land with their uncle.
The children from Bethel Children’s Home exclaimed that they were excited and joyous for this ‘wonderful outing’. They said that they enjoyed this experience and they loved the character Abulele.
Bethel Children’s Home is an orphanage in Tuensang.
A member of TTBL youth expressed gratitude to the organizers and said that Abulele taught him to trust in people and not to succumb to peer pressures. He quoted that, “Just because a person doesn’t put hands on you, that don’t mean that they aren’t abusive. Abuse is control, blatant disrespect, and also hurtful. Don’t settle for emotional abuse thinking it is okay because it is not physical.”
He added that such events should keep coming because it ‘enlightens’ and ‘broadens’ the mindset of the people.
The event was moderated by Hongsang Sonla Chang, Director, EECAS.
