It is ‘Khiamniungan’: get the spelling right, says KSUK

Tuensang, December 10 (MExN): The Khiamniungan Students’ Union Kohima (KSUK) has once again clarified the spelling of the tribe name to be spelled as ‘Khiamniungan’ and not ‘Khiamnuingan’ as has been done in Hornbill Festival programmes and newspapers. This was stated in a press release from the Union’s President, Heno K, and General Secretary, Puche P.

The KSUK was “saddened and aggrieved to see that despites repeated appeals and notices to the various sections of the Naga society against the rampant misspelling of the tribe name,” many printed it wrong.

“It is a total disrespect and condemn to the very existence of the tribe. We talk so much about discrimination in mainland India and other Indians not knowing about us while being hypocritical in our own kitchen,” stated the KSUK, adding that “Since time immemorial the Khiamniungan tribe was very much a part of Nagaland as any other tribes of Nagaland and will continue to be.”

The Union urged all to correctly spell the tribe’s name.
