JCPI to hold statewide protests on April 17

DIMAPUR, MARCH 19 (MExN): The Joint Committee for Prevention of Illegal Immigration (JCPI) will hold protest rallies in all district headquarters of Nagaland on April 17.

The protest has been called in view of the Nagaland Government’s failure to comply with the JCPI’s ultimatum for implementation of the ILP by making December 1, 1963 as the single cut off year for both ILP and RIIN for the whole state of Nagaland.

The decision to hold the protest was made during a JCPI meeting on March 19.

“If the Government of Nagaland does not relent to the genuine demand of the indigenous people of the State,” the JCPI cautioned that it would be compelled to launch a state-wide bandh on April 24, followed by a non-cooperation movement “till the genuine demands of the people are fulfilled.”

A press release from the JCPI media cell meanwhile informed that a white paper on the RIIN will be issued to educate the public on the importance of RIIN exercise for effective implementation of ILP and other special provisions in the state of Nagaland which will be translated in all local dialects.

It meanwhile appealed to all the apex tribal bodies to be prepared to “reach our common objective by extending every possible co-operation for the proposed protest rallies and subsequent bandh.”
