JD (U) appeals CM to urgently address Naga political issue

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 25 (MExN): The Nagaland State unit of the Janata Dal (United) today appealed to the Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio to pave way for political parties of the state to play a constructive role in the Naga political issue.

It asked the Chief Minister to convene an all party meeting on the issue immediately; organise meetings with the various Naga political groups in negotiation with the Indian Government; set up a delegation to meet the Prime Minister of India and other Opposition Leaders of the country; and to stage an all political party Dharna in Delhi to draw the attention of the people of India with a message of appeal.

“The Naga Political Issue has entered the most crucial stage. The negotiating teams have openly made their stands clear making the people know the opportunities and the difficulties.  In saying so, it has become paramount for all the stake holders to play constructive vital role according to their own capacity and conscience,” a press release from the JD (U) Nagaland president, Senchumo NSN Lotha and general secretary, Kitoho S Rotokha.

“Democratically speaking, electoral political parties hold one of the strongest strings in so far as they represent the voice of the people who are being represented whether inside or outside the house of Legislature,” it added.

The party further said that the unanimity of the political parties according one voice unflinchingly, will “surely bind the hearts and minds of the negotiating teams to honour the ultimate desire of the people for whom they are striving for.”

It reminded the CM that this would help fulfilling pragmatically the “most prominent section of the manifesto that every political party incorporates during the last several elections that has been conducted in Nagaland since statehood was given.”
