KCCI appeals commercial building owners to waive rent

Kohima, May 15 (MExN): The Kohima Chamber of Commerce & Industries (KCCI) today appealed all the commercial building owners to understand the plight of the struggling business community and waive the rent or charge minimal amount, “which will be a great relief” during this crucial period of COVID-19 pandemic.

KCCI also conveyed deep appreciation to Boulie Whourie for waiving rent to his tenants during this difficult time. “We look forward to similar noble gesture,” stated KCCI general secretary Akhrie Mor in a press note issued here today.

The KCCI also expressed appreciation to district administration headed by Deputy Commissioner Gregory Thejawelie and Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) headed by administrator Kovi Meyase for revising the previous order, which allows all permissible shops to remain open on permitted weekdays during the lockdown period.

Further, the KCCI instructed all shopkeepers to follow government guidelines by providing basic items like water, soap and sanitizer in their respective shops/establishments.

Defaulters will be denied opening of their shops, it stated adding that social distancing protocol has to be maintained strictly within the business premises.

To assist the Government in its efforts to fight this unprecedented pandemic, the KCCI has set up a Market Monitoring Cell which will remain open on all permitted marketing days.

The idea is to check defaulting traders/shopkeepers not adhering to orders and guidelines issued by the government.
