Kiphire to allow movement of stranded people of Nagaland from NE states

As the government is mulling the idea of bringing back stranded students and people from other parts of northeast in coming weeks, the Kiphire District Task Force (DTF) under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Kiphire Sarita Yadav, IAS held a detailed discussion as to how to tackle the influx at DC’s Conference Hall on May 9.


Addressing the meeting, the DC Kiphire informed the house that COVID-19 empowered committee may allow the movement of stranded people of Nagaland from NE states in near future. Accordingly, the chair instructed all concerned to be prepared for the same. 


She urged upon citizens to strictly abide by social distancing as the world have changed saying, “we have to learn to live with corona with precaution and people should learn to take care of oneself.”


She pointed out that government cannot go after everyone enforcing social distancing. “We cannot go on living the way we live prior to COVID-19. It is the duty of the people to act responsibly as the situation demands,” she said. 


Calling upon citizens to join hands in the fight against COVID-19, the DC said, “behavioural change is important to tackle the disease.” 


She also advised all to use social media with self regulation as something wrong use of social media spread misinformation. 


Briefing the members, the Additional SP, Thsürho Thsürhosue Kajiri informed the house that “COVID-19 is not a law and order problem but a situation that calls for collective effort from every citizen to constructively work together.”


He stated that overall situation in Kiphire was relatively peacefully and called upon citizens to extend help and cooperation towards the law enforcing agency. 


In the meeting, the Medical Department also raised concerns of the need for more ministerial staff in the event of anticipated return of stranded students/persons from neighbouring NE and rest of India. 


On this the DC requested the United Sangtam Likhüm Pümji (USLP) and other civil society organizations to submit detail list of students and other stranded people from NE and other part of the country who desire to return to the district.
