Kiphire DLCC meeting discuss effective implementation of COTPA

Kiphire, November 14 (MExN): The District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) meeting was conducted on November 11 at DC’s Conference hall, Kiphire with the aim of effective implementation of section 4, 5, 6 and 7 of COTPA, 2003.

Section 4 of the COTPA 2003 prohibits smoking in all public places while Section 5 prohibits any kind of advertisement, brand promotion and sponsorship of tobacco products. Section 6 includes prohibition on sale of tobacco products to and by minors and prohibition of sale around educational institutions. Section 7 of COTPA specifies that all tobacco products offered for sale should bear health warnings in the form of designated pictures which would act as a warning.

As per a DIPR report, the committee also decided to form an enforcement team and officially they will function as flying squad in the district. The team will be visiting shops from time to time and fine will be imposed on the defaulters.

District Nodal Officer, NTCP Kiphire, Dr N Moa Jamir informed that posters were pasted in all the offices and institutions to create awareness among the public. He also informed that the committee will select ‘Tobacco-Free Institutions’ within the district and they will be given certificates during the Statehood Day celebration on December 1, 2021.
