Kiphire gets first Mini Soil Testing Lab

First ever Mini Soil Testing Lab and also Soil Health Card Scheme (SHCS) under the department of Soil & Water Conservation were inaugurated by DC Kiphire Sarita Yadav, IAS at DC Conference Hall in the presence of HoDs, NGOs and Public leaders on February 6.
The DC said that the Mini Soil Testing lab and Soil Health Card Scheme will argument the problem faced by the farmers in the district. She urged upon the farmers to utilize the facility provided by the department so that farmers in Kiphire get the maximum benefit out of the scheme.
Giving a brief background about the scheme, P Angming Konyak, SDO (Soil) Seyochung stated that Soil Health Card Scheme was officially launched by the ministry of Agriculture & Farmers welfare on February 19, 2015 and under the scheme department will be issuing SHCS to each and every farmers of the district after testing and analyzing soil from the field farm nutrients.
He said basing on the nutrients from the farm SHCS department will recommend the dose and other soil amendments requirements to maximize crop yield.
He pointed out that SHCS is important for farmers so that farmers cultivate according to the fertility of the soil after testing and analyzing of the soil.
He informed that soil testing will be based upon 12 parameters to study the nutrients of the soil.
Introduction of the scheme was given by Tsuthong SCA, Kiphire.
Delivering vote of thanks on behalf of the department, Chumei Yanlem, DSCO, Kiphire thanked various Agri & Allied department for extending help and cooperation for the launched of the scheme. She also informed that 5 Model villages selected by the government out of the 5 blocks under Kiphire will be the 1st villages where soil testing will be done first. She called upon the farming community and public leaders to extend help and support towards the department for the successful implementation of the scheme.
