Kohima, September 17 (MExN): The Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) has officially inaugurated the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign with a significant event—a free health camp for ward and village sanitation drivers and workers.
The health camp, titled ‘Safarmitra Suraksha Shivir,’ was held at the New Supermarket Complex, Razhu Point, Kohima.
In her address, T. Lanusenla Longkumer, CEO of KMC, highlighted the importance of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, which will run from today until October 2, 2024. She detailed a series of activities including cleanliness drives and awareness initiatives designed to promote hygiene and public health.
Longkumer urged sanitation workers to apply the same level of cleanliness in their personal lives that they enforce in the city, emphasizing the campaign’s dual focus on both public sanitation and the well-being of the workers themselves. She also encouraged all sanitation workers to register for the free health check-up provided at the camp.
The event featured the recitation of the Swachhata Pledge, reinforcing the commitment of participants to uphold cleanliness standards. The health camp offered free medical tests and counseling services, while basic work and safety gear were distributed to enhance worker safety. A total of 120 individuals benefited from the health camp.
Pre-launch activities included the distribution of cloth bags to pedestrians to reduce plastic use, and churches across the city were asked to support the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, fostering greater community involvement.
As part of the ongoing SHS 2024 campaign, KMC will host a “Clean Habits, Clean Values” cleanliness drive on September 18, starting at 7:00 AM from Old MLA Junction (opposite Ao Church) and proceeding to Razhu Point.
Residents of Kohima are invited to participate in this initiative to maintain a clean, green, and healthy city. Participants are advised to bring their own water bottles; however, refreshments will be provided at the event.
