Today, as it is widely observed, we celebrate our ancestries through transcending narratives by coming together and feasting, and marking the significances by erecting structures or gifting means. These narratives by elders, remarkably bring people together acting as a means of ancestral root tracing.

Similarly on May 6, the ancestral significance of lineage was commemorated by four villages of the Southern Angami- Viswema, Kidima, Jakhama and Kezoma by laying a monolith at Viroyi Tsü at Kezocha.

Yose Chaya, an elder of Viswema Village narrates the lineage with great detail.

The four villages were biological brothers whose father was Keyho hence Keyho-nümi (sons of Keyho). The names of the four sons were Viswe (Viswema), Vikien (Jakhama), Thoran (Kidima) and Levi (Kezoma).

While the significance of the celebration has indepth reasons as placed, “Keyhonümi Thuzazho Zashetsü at Viroyi Tsü” it maybe mentioned that it is describing the four villages collectively hunting down a cattle which had strayed from one village to the other. The place where the monolith has been erected (Viroyi Tsü) also signifies that the meat of the cattle was shared into four different portions.

After hunting down the cattle, the four portions of the meat was shared accordingly. Viswema got the bottom of the meat, Jakhama the head, Kidima the side and Kezoma the heart.

The monolith is located in the outskirt of Kezocha.

During the programme, Advisor of Youth resources and sports, Government of Nagaland, Zale Neikha called the villages to reaffirm brotherhood by emulating the spirit of unity and oneness.

The occasion was blessed by elder Neisa Thol of Kidima Village and marked by a traditional feasting and presentation of folk songs where people from different walks, belonging to the said villages, participated.
