Kohima Police today conducted a surprise raid on bootleggers here and seized approximately 60 cases of assorted brands of liquor.
Led by Vekhosa Chakhesang, senior superintendent of police Kohima, the raid was carried out alongwith Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) in two locations- Old Minister’s Hill and Jail Colony. Police said the raid was carried out in several shops selling liquor on the pretext of vending chips, mineral water and juices. The seized liquors were later taken to South Police Station. Police said that four shops selling liquor in Old Minister’s Hill have been operating without proper trade licence. KMC inspector said that they will take up the matter and likely to seal those shops.
Mentionably, Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act was introduced in 1989. The Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1989 is an Act of Nagaland Legislative Assembly which prohibits possession, sale, consumption & manufacture of liquor and import and export of it in Nagaland.
The Act further bans the use or possession of denatured spirit or any material, utensil, implement or apparatus whatsoever used for manufacture of liquor. Publishing or display of advertisements of liquor or any other preparation fit for use as liquor in the newspapers and periodicals is also banned.
