
KOHIMA, DECEMBER 13 (MExN): Kohima district has been selected as best performing district in Nagaland for the State Level Clean India Award, followed by Peren and Wokha districts.
This was decided during the State Level Clean India Award meeting held under the chairmanship of Secretary, Youth Resources and Sports, Wezope Kenye, IAS, on November 29 in the office chamber of the Secretary, YRS.
Kenye briefed about the achievements of the campaign in Nagaland which was organized under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav launched from October 1 to 31 across the country. He said that the campaign was launched at Local Ground, Kohima and the youths from NSS, Indian Red Cross Society and NYKS held a cleanliness drive in and around the Local Ground at Kohima.
During the program, 744 districts across the country have participated and collected plastic waste over 10 lakh Kgs at national level. In Nagaland, all District Administrations, NSS, Bharat Scout and Guides, members of Youth club and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan as the Nodal Implementing Agency actively participated and collected plastic waste of 45,625 kgs against the target set for 25,600 kgs for Nagaland. He also mentioned that beautifications of 1,129 villages were carried out by the villagers themselves apart from cleaning and digging up of 257 traditional water sources.
He further appreciated the collective efforts of the youth of the state and all the Nodal Department for participating towards the success of the campaign.
