Traders along the stretch from New NST to Khuochiezie (Kohima Local Ground) North Gate via Razhu point in Kohima on Saturday downed their shutters to express unhappiness with the authorities over the enforcement of ‘No Parking Zone’ along the stretch from October 1.

Officials of Traders Road Business Association Kohima (TRBAK) told media persons that Saturday’s shutter-down was to be taken as a sign of unhappiness over the decision of the authority.

The officials informed that about 90% of shops along the road and Supermarket area in Kohima responded to the shutter-down from morning till evening. Stating that it was not a forced closure, the officials said that commercial establishments along the stretch came forward to take such a step to air their grievances.

While the shutter-down was only for a day, the traders told media persons that they would wait for a response of the concerned authority.

The officials informed that the traders were not going against the government, adding that it had not damage the properties or disrupted the activities of Kohima Street Carnival in any manner. They wished that the smart city activities are not confined to one particular area alone but spread out to different parts of the state capital.

Hoping that the government would listen to their grievances, the traders also hoped that a joint sitting of RTA, Traffic, KCCI, and district administration is convened to sort out the matter.

Recently, it was informed that some members of Kohima Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) met Kohima Deputy Commissioner and sought his intervention for consideration of eight points.

The points included setting up dropping and pick-up points at every 30 to 50 metres; designate and sufficient free parking zones for 2- wheelers; designate locations every 30 to 50 metres for unloading and loading of materials; no restriction for unloading of water tankers within the specified stretch; no restrictions during weekends, public holidays and non-office working days; no parking to be applied from 8: 00 am to 6: 00 pm and not 6: 00 am to 8: 00 pm; security from 6: 00 pm to 9: 00 pm with no load-shedding during the period; provision for specified numbers of local taxi parking at 3 locations within the stretch and one additional stop for mini-bus at Old NST.
