DIMAPUR, MARCH 22 (MExN): A mass destruction programme of liquor and illegal drugs was organised by the Konyak Students Union  on March 21 at its office in the presence of District Administration, District Executive Force, Konyak Union (KU), Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK) and the Committee on Drugs Addiction Mitigation and Prevention (CoDAMP).


A press release from the KSU informed that the items were seized during an operation conducted by the Joint Action Committee Against Drug Abuse and Supply spearheaded by the ‘Konyak Students’ Union, which was formed under the aegis of the Konyak Frontal Organization’s declaration ‘War Against Drug.’ 


The JAC kick start its operation on March 3, which is going to be an indefinite war against drugs and other psychotropic substances. Expressing concern over the increasing numbers of drug users and supply in Mon district, which has also affected college going students and underage youngsters, the union warned that stern action would be taken against the suppliers/peddlers.


Highlighting the problem of drug abuse and its adverse effect to the users and to Konyak society, the KSU pointed out that Mon District being located at international and state borders, smuggling of such illegal drugs is rampant and many youngsters have been exposed to it. 


The KSU appealed to all the concern authorities, individuals and well wishers to support and co-operate with the union and join hands in its fight against drugs. The union further appealed to all its sub-ordinate units to be alert and carry on the operation in their respective jurisdictions and strictly adhere to the directives of the union.
