Nagaland Minister for Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu and Power Advisor, Tovihoto Ayemi along with officials of the Power Department today inspected the ongoing revival works at Duilum-Roi Mini Hydel Project at Poilwa village under Peren district.
The project stopped operating in August 2019 as the main channel was damaged by a massive landslide.
Addressing the gathering at the project site, Kronu informed that in order to give impetus to the activities of the Power Department, the State Government has projected an amount of Rs. 1,115 crore to the 15th Finance Commission for various power projects in the state.
Kronu said that electricity forms the most important component of developmental activities. “If we have good roads and power, other developmental activities can follow suit,” he said.
The PDA government will continue to focus on power projects through funding from Government of India, FDI or Asian Development Bank, he said, while adding that proposals are being made for bigger power projects in Upper and Lower Tizu as well as the Tizu valley.
On the department’s proposal for upgradation of the Mini Hydel Project at Duilum-Roi up to 2MW, he suggested a proper feasibility survey report so as to take up the matter.
Ayemi meanwhile said that the present government has a lot of developmental visions and assured that the revival and upgradation of power projects would continue in the given project site. However, in Nagaland since land and its resources lie with the villagers, he sought the cooperation and support of the villagers.
Shikato Sema, Engineer-in-Chief of the Power Department said that through the project, the department is trying to capitalise the available resources.
Penrithung Yanthan, Additional Chief Engineer (T&G), Power Department said the Duilum-Roi Mini Hydel Project which started in 1991 has two stages, with the first being 540 KW and the second 200 KW.
It was designed to operate in isolation (off grid) and provide electricity to surrounding villages, he informed.
However, the department has proposed for revival of the two stages of the project and has also come up with a new plan with capacity of 2.4 MW, which will be connected to the grid, he said.
The DPR has been prepared and the proposal submitted to the State Government, he informed, adding that the project is designed to generate 11.95 MU annually.
