KTCCI comes out against COVID-19 cess

KIPHIRE, MAY 6 (MExN): The Kiphire Town Chamber of Commerce & Industries (KTCCI) has come out against the government’s decision to impose a COVID-19 cess on fuel.

A press release from the KTCCI Chairman, CS Litingse and Secretary Tsalichum said that this will jeopardise businesses and indirectly affect the common people.

“At this hour of world crisis and the nationwide lockdown due to epidemic COVID-19, the idea of implementing Cess on petrol and diesel is an utter catastrophe for remote districts confronting to price rise,” it added.

The KTCCI said that the remote areas are already suffering with connectivity issues due to the bad road conditions.

The government, it stated, should understand the whole paradigm about the ground reality that all the districts face. “Fuel is mandatory for everyone as it is a necessity, the price rise will affect the truckers and the increase in fare shall affect the business and in the end the common people suffer due to the certain imbalance,” the KTCCI said.

While appreciating the efforts of the government to contain the pandemic, it reiterated that the decision to impose a COVID-19 cess must be rolled back.
