KU appeals all to respect people’s yearning for peace and prosperity

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 21 (MExN): The Konyak Union (KU) today appealed to the Government of India and the negotiating parties that the utmost aspirations of the people is peace and prosperity, and urged that all parties “respect, adhere and shoulder the peoples' sentiments yearning for emancipation.”

“All concerned Naga leaders representing different political organizations, groups or tribes must learn of their mistakes made in the past, the greed, jealousy and hatred towards each other and embrace all, forgiving one another in the name of our Almighty God,” a press release from the KU general secretary, Wango Konyak and press secretary, Pangmei Konyak stated.

It asked all Naga political groups to come together for honorable and lasting solution for all the Nagas and appealed “likeminded leaders to restrain from vengeful attitudes.” The union meanwhile asserted that “Konyak territory and jurisdiction shall not be used as a safe haven by any political groups/factions if the solution of the Nagas fails to compromise with the Government of India.”

It reaffirmed the ENPO standing resolution that any “bloodsheds, extortions, harassments or tortures towards common citizens or leaders shall not be tolerated nor negotiated in any manner.” The union asked all groups and military forces to “restrain from unnecessary blame games which the union or any individuals/ leaders has nothing to deal with.”

Further, the KU urged the GoI to start acting on the ‘Act East Policy,’ while maintaining and extending the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the Indo-Myanmar border for cultural integration and development amongst the people.
