The Kulolau Yeputhomi Kuqkahulu held its general session at S. Vihuto Village on December 17.
Exhorting the gathering, Lok Sabha MP, Tokheho Yeputhomi maintained that the Sumis and Nagas in general were sliding backward in many aspects and called for the society and Church to work hand in hand to take the people forward.
He urged the people to not always claim for their rights but to be accommodative in the spirit of give and take.
Commissioner & Secretary to Government of Nagaland, Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS welcomed the manner in which different clans within Sumi community form their respective associations and come together at a common platform.
However, he said once the main objective behind forming such associations are achieved like finding out the history of descendents, then one should do away with identification of a group of people through clans.
He discouraged marriages within clans and added there were also advantages of inter-tribal marriages. Kikheto said clanism, tribalism etc has had adverse effects on the society and called for an end to it.
He appealed the leaders to propagate the message of living in peace with each other. Kipelau Yeputhomi Kuposhukulu, President, Kakihe Yeputhomi and Hokiye Yeputhomi, Head GB of Khehokhu village also exhorted the gathering.
Rev Prof Akheto Yeputhomi, General Secretary CBCNEI, Guwahati pronounced prayer invoking God’s blessings for the clan.
The programme was attended by representatives of Yeputhomi clan from various villages and areas.
