Kumlong Ward Golden Jubilee curtain raiser

As a curtain raiser, the Kumlong Ward Golden Jubilee Planning Committee successfully organized a sketching and crayon drawing competition for the children of Kumlong and Mongsenbai at Eden Academy here today which was participated by fifteen enthusiastic and talented artists.  

The drawing competition was organized by the Planning Committee with the active support of the Kumlong Ward council, the Kumlong Environment Committee and the Kumlong Baptist Church.  

The competition was organized on the theme ‘Toxic Free Environment’ keeping in mind the need for a cleaner, greener and eco-friendly environment in the society.   The competition was divided into two categories: junior (Class V-VII) and Senior (Class IX – XII). The judges for the competition were Aren Changkija as the chief judge, and assisted by KBC Associate Pastor Moanaro Imchen and Planning Committee member I Tsukjem.

  The winners of both the categories were awarded cash prizes while the remaining participants were awarded certificates of participation. The winners and the paintings will be incorporated in the golden Jubilee Souvenir book.  

This is the first of a series of activities which the Planning Committee has earmarked to be initiated and implemented during the next two years. The Planning Committee has especially chosen the theme for safeguarding the environment since safeguarding our biodiversity and maintaining a healthy environment is the hallmark of a progressive and civilized society.  

Meanwhile, the Convener of the Kumlong Ward Golden Jubilee Planning Committee, Tia Longkumer expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who have rendered their services for the success of the competition. He also especially thanked the Kumlong Ward Council, the judges and also the participants for their active participation and support. Moreoever, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Administrator of Eden Academy for allotting the school to be used hosting the competition.  

It may be noted here that Kumlong Ward, which is one of the biggest wards in Mokokchung town, will be celebrating its 50th year anniversary in the year 2019. The Kumlong Ward Council has appointed a planning committee drawing in people from various fields to oversee the whole preparation for the grand jubilee celebration.
