Phek, December 6 (MExN): KVK Phek, ICAR-NRCM celebrated World Soil Day under the theme ‘Stop Erosion, Save our future’ on December 5 at Chakhesang Mission Centre Church.
The programme started with an exhibition of farmer’s oriented technologies. The welcome address was delivered by Senior Scientist & Head In charge, KVK Phek.
An oral presentation on soil health management was delivered by Dr T Esther Longkumer, ACTO (Soil Science), KVK-Phek where she emphasized on different soil conservation methods. EAC Sakraba, Abeinuo Jasmine Ashao in her deliberation appraised the gatherings on the effect of climate change and to mitigate through safe disposal of waste.
Branch Manager, SBI Pfutsero, W Onesimus encouraged the farmers for financial inclusion in agriculture and allied activities. Vechulo-u Kanuo, executive Director, Chakhesang Women Welfare Society, Pfutsero urged the participants to take up organic farming for improving soil fertility status and for human’s well being.
Soil Health Cards were distributed to the farmers of four villages viz Khezakeno, Chizami, Thetsumi and K Basa. Representative from 14th Assam Rifles, Pfutsero were also present during the programme.
A farmer-scientist interaction programme was conducted followed by distribution of vermicompost packets to the participants. The programme was chaired by Dr Rinku Bharali and words of appreciation was delivered by Dr Debojyoti Borkotoky.
