KVK Zunheboto, Nagaland University conducts STRY prog

Zunheboto, October 20 (MExN): One week Skill Training for Rural Youth (STRY) programme was conducted by KVK Zunheboto, Nagaland University on vermicomposting at KVK from October 14 to 19.


The main objective of the programme was to provide the participants a detailed account of the process involved in preparation of vermicomposting and vermiculture.


Senior Scientist and Head Dr Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, course coordinator requested the farmers to come up with the technique at their villages so that the organic fertilizer requirements are met at the village level, which will lead to production of organic foods.


Naropongla, farm manager demonstrated upon the various methodologies to be adopted to become successful in the technique. Dr Chaurasia during the technical sessions explained the importance of vermicomposting in today’s world and its role in crop production, a press release from Dr Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia stated.


For successful adoption of organic farming, it is one of the important components which not only improves soil fertility but also improves soil structure and water holding capacity.


During the valedictory session, Wapangtoshi Longkumer, ACT plant protection suggested the farmers to develop the art of vermiculture for generating income and to reduce drudgery among the women.


He assured that KVK will provide all the assistance to farmers in every aspect of farming. Readymade vermicomposting tetra beds were supplied to the farmers so that technique starts at the earliest possible at farmers’ field. Altogether 16 participants participated in the week long programme
