Mon, November 12 (MExN): The Longchang Area Students’ Union (LASU) on November 12 extended its ‘full support’ to the Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) in the demand for a review and reform of the state job reservation policy by population ratio to ensure equitable justice.
In an update received here, it pointed out the fact that Konyak tribe, being one of the largest tribal populations in Nagaland, continues to face systemic marginalization under the existing reservation framework.
At the same time, it stated that the disparity in employment opportunities, combined with high literacy among youth, unemployment, and poor socio-economic indicators in Mon district, reflected the urgency of immediate redressal.
Likewise, the union stated that this was not merely a demand for policy reform, but a cry for justice, equality, and recognition of the rights of the Konyak people, adding that “any further delay in addressing this issue will only deepen frustration among the educated youth and could have serious social consequences.”
The union urged the state government to take immediate steps for restructuring the existing reservation policy, and to adopt a population-based reservation system “without waiting for the release of the 2021 census report.”
