Kohima | October 1 : Two senior citizens Lhusi Haralu and Wezulhi C. Krome were conferred with distinguished senior citizens award on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons 2011 in Kohima today. The award was conferred to them by social & welfare Secretary Norman Putsure.
Lhusi Haralu: She is eldest daughter of late A. Kevishusa and Manie Kevichusa, born on 17th August, 1932. She married to late Thepfoorya Haralu, Padmashree.
First, she rendered her service as chairman, Project Implementing Committee, Kameng Frontier Division under North Eastern Frontier Agency (NEFA presently called Arunachal Pradesh), under NEFA Social Welfare Advisory Board from 1964 to 1967. She was also the chairperson of Nagaland State Social Welfare advisory board from April 1979 to September 1987.
She was inducted into the Nagaland Pace Centre, Kohima as executive director from 1984 till date. She was selected as president of Nagaland Council for Child Welfare on Ist September 1987 and holding office till 2008.She was the founder member and founder vice president of India Red Cross Society Nagaland Branch from 26th February 1982 till Ist term. From 1982 to 1987 she was the vice president of Family Planning Association of India, Kohima Branch. She was also working president of Naga Mothers Association latter on as advisor.
Wezulhi C. Krome: Son of late Chikha Krome was born on 10th January 1916 at Lasumi village under Phek district of Nagaland. He started an early business from 1930 to 1942 by running a departmental and garment shop at Kohima at the Mission Compound road, Chotobosti. He was also a member of the Naga Club delegation during the visit of the Simon Commission when submitted the first written Memorandum to British government on the 10th of January 1929.
From 1940-1945 he was the chairman of Pfutsero Area Kheza Committee. 1945-1947 he was the chairman of Pfutsero Private School ME School advisory Board and captain of Pfutsero ME School Football team. He was also chairman of Kheza Area Students Union upto 1948. Again from 1946-1954 he was the president of Kheza Committee. 1953-55 he was president of Chakhesang Tribal Council. 1960-61, he was the chairman of Peace Council, Chakhesang Area and chairman of Ptutsero Town Committee.
1964-69, he was the member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (MLA), during this period he served as parliamentary board member for education, development, government insurance, border dispute with Assam and Manipur. He was also a peace member of the then ruling party of Nagaland Nationalist Organization (NNO).
From 1969-1977, he was the president of Naga Wrestling Association. 1982-1998 he was the chairman Jury Board of Chakhesang Public Organization for all cases of disputes and related issues within the districts of Phek and Kohima. 1993-2003- he was the founding member and first president of Tenyimi Central Union, covering all Tenyimi people living in the states of Nagaland, Assam and Manipur.
Although Wezulhi C. Krome at present does not actively hold any more office in his social and political life, he is still an active participant in all social and political activities from the village to community level as well as the larger Naga society in general.
