Longleng, February 22 (MExN): Dr Takenori Murakami, a linguist and scholar from the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Japan delivered a lecture at Yingli College, Longleng on February 21.

Dr Murakami spoke about the cultural and the linguistic homology between the north-eastern people groups and the Japanese, drawing inferences from the traditional dances, food habits and way of life. He also recalled how the battle of Kohima halted the movement of the Japanese forces during the Second World War. This brought the distant nation closer in the collective imagination.

The lecture was followed by Q&A, enriching the students' understanding of both historical and modern ties with the island nation sparking their curiosity to further explore academic opportunities.

The special lecture series was organised by the Yingli College Research Cell in collaboration with IQAC to inform students on pressing issues and introduce them to academic dialogue.
