Dimapur, March 16 (MExN): St. John College, Dimapur held its Literary cum Cultural Day with an array of special presentations on March 14.
According to a press release from the College’s Media Cell, Kuvethilu Thuluo, Asstistant Professor, Department of History, gave a talk on the need to preserve culture and identity so as not to run into the risk of becoming nobody by chasing a culture which is alien to us. She urged the students to look within themselves and their land to rediscover the rich cultural heritage, to claim it, and to celebrate it.
This was followed by an ‘Ethnic Walk’ where the students belonging to different communities showcased their colourful traditional attire, while backing music was provided in the form of a fusion performance from members of the college music club, the release stated.
Inakali Assumi, Assistant Professor, Department of English, stressed the importance of inculcating reading culture amongst the students.
“We must read to survive and to grow” she said before suggesting that one of the reasons why the students of today do not read much is because they are lost in the world of internet and television.
Other highlights of the programme included a special presentation from the Dance Club, solo competition and Bollywood dance.
