Longleng campaigns against gender-based violence

Phek, December 10 (MExN): District Task Force Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Mahila Shakti Kendra, One Stop Centre in collaboration with Phomla Hoichem Longleng observed International day for the elimination of violence against women-16 days of activism against gender-based violence was held on December 10 at Hukphang Junction Longleng.
A DIPR report stated that Deputy Commissioner Longleng, Shayung Phom in his keynote address spoke on how to eliminate violence against women in our society. He said, “Women alone cannot fight against any sort of violence towards women in such large society but men should come forward, raise their voice for the safety of their wife, sisters, daughters and society at large.”
He informed the house that in order to save our women and girl child and for the upliftment of our women folk, Government of India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched several schemes for the benefit of women in our country. He encouraged not only the women but also men folk to have knowledge of certain schemes for the welfare of their family and society in general.
Brief introduction on generation equality was given by Ongthai Phom, V/President Phomla Hoichem Longleng. She encouraged the gathering to take such programme as an opportunity for the welfare of our society, adding to that she advices the women folk from every nook and corner to come forward and speak up for their rights and do seek help from the District task force BBBP, Mahila Shakti Kendra-district level centre for women, SAKHI-one stop centre and Phomla Hoichem (Phom women apex body) who selflessly work hand in hand in support of women in distress and for the betterment of our women, girl child and society as a whole.
Awareness on BBBP, MSK and OSC was given by Shitung Phom, District Coordinator MSK Longleng and Nyangyungsangla Phom Counselor OSC Longleng. ‘Solitary walk’ for violence against women from Hukphang junction till Lempong junction Longleng was also held.
The programme was chaired by Merenjenla Phom, Joint Secretary, Phomla Hoichem.
