LONGLENG, SEPTEMBER 12 (MExN): The District Health Society, Longleng, organized a two-day District Level Training on Navjaat Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (NSSK) on 11th and 12th September 2025 at the CMO Conference Hall, Longleng. The training, aimed at strengthening the skills of healthcare providers in neonatal resuscitation and essential newborn care, was conducted by Dr. Sanuzolu Kezo, Paediatrician, District Hospital Longleng, as the resource person.
On the first day, sessions focused on birth preparedness, infection prevention, delivery room setup, routine care of newborns, neonatal resuscitation algorithms, bag-and-mask use, and positive pressure ventilation. Participants also engaged in practical demonstrations on handling babies who do not cry or breathe at birth.
Day two covered continuation of positive pressure ventilation, observational care with the mother, postnatal care, monitoring breathing and temperature, breastfeeding, kangaroo mother care, immunization, and neonatal transport. Sessions emphasized recognizing signs of sickness, discharge planning, and hands-on use of radiant warmers and resuscitation equipment.
A pre-test and post-test were conducted to assess knowledge and skill enhancement of participants. The training concluded with wrap-up discussions, ensuring that healthcare providers are better equipped to deliver life-saving interventions for newborns.
In his closing remarks, Dr Imtijungshi Aier, DPO RCH/UIP, urged participants to apply the training in their respective health units to improve maternal and child health indicators in the district.
The programme underscored the collective commitment of the Longleng Health Department toward reducing neonatal mortality and enhancing quality newborn care.
