Majestic Dzudu Lake, reported rich in ivory remains mystery

A majestic water body popularly known as ‘Dzudu Lake’, supposedly said to be rich in ivory located in the deep forest of Pholami Village and which was once an ‘exploration site’ of the British army during the World War-II still exist in Pholami forest under Phek District.

It was said that, during the World war-II the British discovered the existence of the lake while they were camping at the dense forest. It came to their knowledge that the lake contained several valuable resources like rich ivory items. After consulting with the Pholami village, the Britons, with required machinery equipments spent its efforts in drying up the lake in order to procure the rich natural resources. However, it was reported that the Lake being majestic in nature destroyed the entire equipments that they used. Seven different streams flow into the Dzudu lake-Reservoir Lake. 

Frightening the Britons with its majestic power, and to avoid any misfortunes happening to them in future, they threw several monetary items into the lake and left. The lake which still exists was further believed to have those unexplored rich items.

Besides the existence of the unexplored rich resourced lake, the very forest is also rich in flora and fauna and is the home of the tallest Bonson tree in Pholami forest, which measures 127.9 feet in height and 22.6 feet in girth. The same is also predicted to be the tallest Bonson Tree in India. Another prevailing Bonson tree measuring 39.11 in girth with 96.3 in height is also expected to be one of the biggest Bonson tree in India.
