Kohima, May 14 (MExN): In two separate anti-narcotics operations conducted within a week, the Kohima Police seized substantial quantities of suspected heroin and opium and arrested four individuals. The operations, carried out on May 5 and May 12, were executed by mobile patrol units under the jurisdictions of Khuzama and Kezocha Police Stations respectively.
302 g heroin seized from Maruti Alto
The PRO Kohima Police in its press release stated that in the first operation, a mobile patrol unit of Kohima Police intercepted a Maruti Alto (registration number NL07CD 5992) at approximately 4:20 pm on May 5 along the Kidima-Viswema stretch, under the jurisdiction of Khuzama Police Station.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 25 soap cases containing suspected heroin, known as ‘Shan Flower’, with a total weight of approximately 302 grams.
Two occupants of the vehicle were arrested on the spot. The accused have been identified as Kharamo Aziah, 28, and AL Keystone, 39. A formal case has been registered at Khuzama Police Station and investigation is underway.

Six kg opium hidden in speaker compartment
In the second and larger seizure, a mobile patrol unit operating under Kezocha Police Station intercepted a Mahindra Bolero (registration number AS03X 1718) at Kidima on May 12, when the vehicle was travelling from Mao towards Kohima.
During a search of the vehicle, police personnel recovered six packets of suspected opium, weighing approximately one kilogram each, totalling six kilograms, concealed inside the left speaker compartment of the vehicle.
The two occupants, identified as Mohan Chhetry (male) and R Chaonai (female), were arrested in connection with the seizure. A case has been registered at Kezocha Police Station and further investigation is in progress.
Following the two seizures of NDPS, formal case have been registered at Khuzama PS and Kezocha PS respectively, and further investigation is underway to uncover the linkages of these trafficking networks, the police said. “These operations underscore the unwavering commitment of the Kohima Police to the fight against drug abuse and substance trafficking,” it asserted.
The Kohima Police reiterated its appeal to citizens to report any information related to drug peddling or suspicious activities, assuring that the identities of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
