Media conclave on on-ground reporting to be held in Shillong

Shillong, October 6 (MExN): Hill Myna Media Pvt Ltd, publisher of Hill Myna Magazine, will organise its first Media Conclave on “On-Ground Reporting” in Shillong on October 7, bringing together journalists, media professionals, academicians, government representatives and aspiring journalists to discuss the realities and challenges of field-based journalism.

The conclave will be held at the Moreau Institute of Integral Training and Research Society, Shillong. According to the organisers, discussions will focus on field reporting, access to information, fact verification, ethical journalism, community-focused reporting and the changing media landscape.

The programme will feature media professionals from the North-East and other parts of the country, including The Morung Express’ Imkong Walling, Niloy Bhattacharjee and Michaeljit Yumnam as speakers. L Kharkongor, Director Media/Editor, and T Marak, Director, are also listed among the participants.

The organisers said the conclave seeks to highlight the importance of first-hand reporting in bringing community voices and ground realities to wider audiences, while examining how stories from Meghalaya and the Northeast can gain wider visibility without losing their local context.

Director Media/Editor L Kharkongor said on-ground reporting is “a keystone device of a free society and the nerve centre of the Fourth Estate,” emphasising the reporter's role in connecting events on the ground with wider public understanding.

The event will also provide an opportunity for young journalists and media students to interact with experienced practitioners and gain practical insights into reporting beyond the newsroom, informed press release from the organiser.
