Medziphema, May 21 (MExN): Amid reports and rumours of a possible African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak in Medziphema Sub-Division and “pending confirmation of laboratory test results,” the Additional Deputy Commissioner, James Swu, issued an order regulating the slaughter and sale of pigs and pork in the area. The order has been issued in the interest of public safety and disease prevention.
As per the directive, with immediate effect that no individual, butcher, trader, farmer, or any person shall slaughter any pig for commercial sale or distribution within Medziphema Sub-Division without obtaining prior permission from the District Administration. “Any person intending to slaughter a pig for sale shall first report the matter to the office of the undersigned and seek necessary approval,” it stated.
Authorised official Kevilelie Keyho, Livestock Inspector of VFATI, will conduct verification and inspection of the pigs, and slaughter will be allowed only after clearance is granted.
The sale, transportation or distribution of pork without such approval will be treated as a violation, inviting legal action, the order said.
All village authorities, GBs, ward authorities, butchers, meat vendors, and citizens have been directed to ensure strict compliance in the interest of public health and disease containment.
The order takes effect immediately from May 20, until further notice, it added.
