Dimapur, July 6 (MExN): With the COVID-19 induced lockdown and educational institutes resorting to online classes, many students who cannot afford smart phones have been facing difficulty to cope with the new system.
Recognising their need, the MGM College and MGM Higher Secondary School started a unique charity programme called ‘Mobile for Learning’ (MFL) under which marginalized students were provided with smart phones for attending their online class.
Started in September 2020, this programme aimed at providing smart phones for online learning to the marginalized students who do not have any smart phone in the family for online class.
Teachers were given the responsibility to identify the needy students. So far, more than 22 students have been provided with smart phones free of cost or at a discount of 50 percent, depending on their financial status, the MGM institutes informed in a press release.
The ‘Mobile for Learning’ programme is still going on and the Secretary of St Thomas Mission Society informed that under this unique charity initiative, more smart phones are available for the needy students.
The MGM staff continuously donated one day's salary as part of the fund raising initiative in support of the charity work organized by MGM institutions, the release added.
