Mission Shakti reviews women welfare schemes

Kohima, May 17 (MExN): The State Hub for Empowerment of Women under Mission Shakti, Social Welfare Department, organised a state-level consultative meeting and training programme for district functionaries of Mission Shakti at the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) auditorium in Kohima on May 15.

The programme aimed at strengthening coordination, capacity building and effective implementation of women and child welfare schemes across the state under Mission Shakti.

Director of Social Welfare and Member Secretary of Mission Shakti, Tosheli Zhimomi, who chaired the inaugural session, appreciated the dedicated services of district functionaries across all 17 districts and acknowledged the best-performing districts in various categories.

In her introductory address, Secretary of Social Welfare and Mission Director of Mission Shakti, Yongchingkumla, highlighted several achievements under Mission Shakti during the last financial year.

She informed that Sakhi-One Stop Centres (OSC) were established in six newly created districts in October 2025 and also highlighted the outreach efforts of Shakti Sadan and Sakhi Niwas in supporting targeted beneficiaries.

Yongchingkumla further stated that under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), a total of 6,878 beneficiaries received cash incentives amounting to Rs 3,33,97,000 through Direct Benefit Transfer during the 2025-26 financial year.

Appreciating the dedication of district officials despite challenges, she urged them to continue serving women with sensitivity, efficiency, accountability and timely intervention.

Delivering the keynote address, Secretary and Administrative Head of Department (AHoD), Social Welfare, Limawabang Jamir, IAS, stressed that convergence remained the key intervention strategy for effective implementation of activities under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) and the Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW).

He highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Social Welfare Department, district administrations and other converging departments in implementing Mission Shakti activities and stressed the need for effective service delivery in addressing issues concerning women and children.

The technical session included a presentation on convergence with key missions and programmes under the Social Welfare Department by Assistant Director of Social Welfare Asangla Jamir.

The programme also featured sharing of best practices by districts under SANKALP – District Hub for Empowerment of Women, SAKHI – One Stop Centre, Shakti Sadan and Sakhi Niwas.

A session on integrated service delivery mechanisms for children was conducted by Programme Manager of the State Child Protection Society under Mission Vatsalya, Raitale Zeliang.

The programme concluded with deliberations and interactive discussions aimed at strengthening district-level coordination and improving support systems for women and children across Nagaland.
