Mkg biz community says no to MMC signboard directive

Mokokchung, December 1 (MExN): The business community of Mokokchung has resolved not to comply with the Mokokchung Municipal Council for mandatory flex signboards with certain designs to be put up on their shops in the town. This decision was taken during the 24th General Meeting of the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI) on November 30, 2011, informed a press release received here from the MCCI president Lanukaba and general secretary, Bendang Walling.

The MCCI, without elaborating on the reasons for rejecting the MMC’s directive, stated that after a threadbare discussion, the general house resolved not to comply with the directive given by MMC in regards to the sign boards display by the members of MCCI in their respective shops.

The MMC on November 3, 2011 had issued a directive display of uniform flex signboards shall be made mandatory for every shop and for all categories within the jurisdiction of Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC).

“It was further resolved that all decisions taken by the house of Executives in the joint meeting with MMC earlier stand overruled by this decision,” the release stated.

The release also disclosed that the MCCI during the 24th General Meeting resolved uphold the decision taken by the apex Ao Senden (Ao Hoho) with regard to collection of taxes by various underground groups.

Not surprisingly, the MCCI also reaffirmed its earlier decision not to entertain any kind of sale of calendar, lottery tickets, collection of donation from any club, society, groups or individuals the earlier decision.

The MCCI also resolved to report to the MCCI office of all the cases of vandalism in the town by members immediately to facilitate quick remedial steps by the concerned authority.

Besides it also ‘unanimously decided’ to urge the authority for extending the entry time for goods laden trucks for offloading by one hour more than present timing of 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM.

Taking into account the forthcoming festive season and also the voluntary late opening of shops by the members of the business community in the town, the MCCI resolved to extend the time up to 5:00 PM to make the town lively during this festive season in Nagaland.

Moreover, the release informed that the house unanimously resolved to write to the Government of Nagaland to make the Cancer Hospital attached to the Dr Imkongliba Memorial Hospital at Mokokchung, a functional one at the earliest possible time.
