Mokokchung Wards discuss NSCN/GPRN tax

Mokokchung, May 31 (MExN): The eighteen wards under Mokokchung town discussed the “tax” collection by the NSCN/GPRN at Ongpangkong Salang here on Monday, May 31. The meeting was held under the aegis of All Ward Union, Mokokchung Town; representatives from the Gorkha Union, ENPO, Sumi Community also attended the meeting. The meeting observed that the new ‘tax’ to be collected by the NSCN/GPRN is too much and resolved to pay like the previous years, i.e. Rs 120 (Army & Ration Tax), Rs 20 (House Tax) and Rs 1 (Soul), and resolved to approach the apex Ao peoples’ organization the Ao Senden for negotiating the matter with the NSCN/GPRN.  The members accepted this resolution by raising their hands.
Till last year the Mokokchung pubic have been paying that amount a ‘tax’ to the NSCN/GPRN. In this regard, the meeting seriously noted that the 2011 ‘tax’ order by the NSCN NSCN/GPRN which stipulates collection of Rs 200 (Army & Ration), Rs 40 (House Tax) and Rs 2 (Soul Tax) is too high, and the 100 percent increase in the taxes as too high.
However, given the fact that the taxes were meant for the whole Mokokchung district, the meeting resolved to approach the Ao Senden to pursue the matter with the NSCN/GPRN. Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Ao Senden also held a meeting yesterday, at the same venue, before the All Ward Union, Mokokchung meeting.
The Ao Senden reportedly has taken a decision to pursue the matter with the NSCN/GPRN. It could not be confirmed though or ascertained what kind of an approach the influential Ao Senden will have to address the issue.
The AWUMT meeting also discussed about the Urban Electricity Management Board and electricity bill collection. In this regard the meeting resolved to follow the guidelines given by the concerned department and resolved to follow it in toto.
