MON, SEPTEMBER 1 (MExN): Advisor to the Chief Minister and Chairman of the Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), Abu Metha, has described Mon as an important district for music, arts and sports, while calling for greater participation from the region in Nagaland's creative economy.
Metha was speaking at the Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA) Nagaland felicitation programme at Walo Guest House, Mon Town, on August 31. Metha said the programme was significant for musicians and the music fraternity of Mon and acknowledged their contribution to the future of music. "Mon District is the most important district as far as Music and Arts is concerned," he said.
He also highlighted the contribution of Konyak content creators, appreciating their creativity, innovation and role in disseminating information.
On sports, Metha said Mon had produced many talented footballers and that several players representing Nagaland in different capacities came from the district. He expressed hope that Konyak sportspersons would go on to represent the country.
Metha also highlighted TaFMA's activities, including workshops, seminars and festivals, and pointed to the Hornbill Festival Mon Extension as an important attraction. He called for the 2026 Mon extension to be "bigger, larger" with greater participation and a stronger focus on the creative economy.
"Nagaland will not rise if all sections of Naga society don't rise," he said, adding that the region was not backward in terms of talent but faced socioeconomic and infrastructure gaps.
During the programme, Metha felicitated two TaFMA beneficiaries, Monglong T from Longphoah village and Wangkhao Issac from Angjangyang village.
