Mopong & Tobu orgs remain firm on Republic Day boycott

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 22 (MExN): The KU (B) Mopong, Public Forum, Chairmen union and students' union held a meeting on January 22 and asked the State government not to be “carried away or confused by the views of certain individuals who have a very little knowledge about the administrative set up of Tobu and Mopong.”

The meeting said that the KU (B) press statement to boycott the Republic Day celebration “was the voice and concern raised by the people of both Mopong and Tobu, as since the beginning of state government administration, the Mopong circle has been under Tobu administration and that the two circles have been living together as one family.”

“It is the desire of the citizens of Mopong circle and Tobu to continue living under single Tobu administration. And that during the creation of SDO (C) Angjangyang none of the villages under Mopong circle was included,” said a joint statement from the KU (B) Mopong, Chairmen Union, Public Forum and MHSU. It further questioned as to why consultation was not done with the stakeholders prior to transfer of Mopong EAC HQ under SDO (C) Angjangyan.

The organizations also mentioned that the voice raised by the Public Forum (Tobu & Mopong), KU (B) Tobu and KU (B) Mopong branch is “not of a vested individual but the common aspirations of the people of the two circles.”

“The voice and will of the people must be the law of the land and in the process, for any government administrative set up, the voice of the public and stakeholders should be considered in the first place before issuing a direct notification,” they added.

The organizations made clear that they remain firm on the resolution to boycott the January 26 Republic Day celebrations if the response from the state government is negative.
