More than 500 returning to Kiphire, majority from red zones

P Achumse Sangtam, General Secretary United Sangtma Likhüm Pümji (USLP)said around 506 persons from Kiphire district have so far registered to travel back from across the country, out of which, he stated that majority of the returnees are from red zones.
With thousands of stranded people from across the country starting to arrive, the USLP on May 15 invited various NGOs, students bodies, women organizations, Churches, Indian Red Cross Society Kiphire, GBs Kiphire Town and political parties to seek their opinion and suggestions as to how to give logistic support to the district administration and government once indigenous citizens from the district return at Hopongkyü Memorial Hall, Kiphire town.
Churches of Kiphire town have offered to provide volunteers for 30 days and even beyond to look after catering and food of the returnees at quarantine centres at Kiphire town.
Achumse pointed out that Kiphire district as a whole does not have enough resources to look after large numbers of returnees who will be coming in the district. He urged the government to look into the matter, and also called upon the citizens of Kiphire to make voluntarily donation in any form to the Church.
He informed the house that district administration, Medical department and Police is doing everything possible so that all the returnees from across India are properly taken care of once they reach the district. In this regard, he urged the citizens of Kiphire to rise up to the occasion and collectively work together in whatever way possible.
Stating that the people of Kiphire have always stood up to challenges with integrity and responsibility, he expressed hope that they would remain true to that sacred tradition.
During the meeting, resolutions regarding returnees were adopted.
It suggested that parents of the respective ward who wish to arrange for their own bedding and other facilities be permitted to do so.
In order to strictly regulate and monitor the number of people coming in the district and to avoid any apprehension in the minds of the general public, only NST bus and government arranged vehicles are to be used to ferry stranded people once the quarantine period is completed from Dimapur and Kohima will be allowed into the district. Use of private vehicle is strictly restricted.
Parents of the returnees are asked to give details and particulars of their children to USLPUSCC in advance for effective management and coordination with the district administration.
All returnees, irrespective of government designated zone, are to be placed under institutional quarantine for 14 days.
Stigmatizing of any returnee by any individual, groups or organizations in any form will be dealt with according to the relevant section of the law.
