Sensitization programme on Child Rights, POCSO Act 2012 held
Longleng, September 14 (MExN): One-day sensitization programme on Child Rights and POCSO Act 2012 was held with Deputy Commissioner, Longleng, John Tsulise Sangtam as special guest on September 14 at Conference hall of Phom Baptist Church Association (PBCA). The programme was organized by the District Child Protection Unit, Longleng. Addressing the gathering, the DC said, “It is the responsibility of all the stake holders down to the village functionaries and every parent should be well informed and aware about child rights and their protection so that our children are not deprived of their rights.”
It was stated in a DIPR report that the DC asserted saying, “our society have different categories of children who are living in a vulnerable condition, neglected and abandoned, therefore, it is our responsibility to reach out to such children and cater to their needs with special attention and provide access to safety and service to them.”
Therefore, the DC appealed for active participation of village functionaries, NGOs and Churches for more awareness on Child Rights and Protection to deliver justice to every child in the community. The DC also appealed to the concerned department to ensure that child protection and observation homes are functioning properly as per the provision to provide utmost care to children. He also urged the gathering to be active and disseminate their knowledge back to their family and community for mass awareness.
Earlier, Invocation was done by Tialemba Phom, Executive Secretary (PBCA); keynote address was delivered by Yangthriba Sangtam, District Child Protection Officer, Longleng and Child Rights & POCSO Act 2012 was explained by Metshetsolo Mero, Legal Cum Probation Officer. The programme concluded with discussion followed by vote of thanks by Arenla C. Phom, Protection Officer (NIC). The program was chaired by Akangmeren, Counselor (DCPU).
