More rains in Nagaland & NE for next 5 days, IMD forecasts

All of Northeast India including Nagaland is likely to see widespread rainfall over the next five days under the influence of southerly/southwesterly winds from Bay of Bengal, according to the IMD’s All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin on Monday.

The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rainfall over Northeast India and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during next 5 days. It said that ‘Isolated heavy rainfall’ is likely to continue over Assam and Meghalaya during next 5 days while Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to receive similar precipitation on June 20, 23, and 24.

According to the IMD, the west coast of India is also likely to receive intense rainfall during the next five days and the Northern, Central and Eastern parts of India will receive thunderstorm activity accompanied by isolated heavy showers for the next two days.

The IMD said the southwest monsoon has further advanced into most parts of Madhya Pradesh, most parts of Jharkhand and Bihar, entire Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal, and some parts of southeast Uttar Pradesh.

While forecasting widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning in several places across the country throughout the week, the IMD also cautioned that squally weather with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph, are likely over east central Arabian Sea, along and off south Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka coasts and strong winds of 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph are likely over south west Arabian Sea and adjoining west central Arabian Sea. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these seas, it added.
