New Delhi, September 9 (MExN): Advocate Nchumbemo Mozhui (N Mozhui) has been appointed an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court, according to a notification issued by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice on September 8.
The appointment was made by the President in exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India and in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, the notification stated.
Mozhui is among two advocates/judicial officers appointed as Additional Judges of the Gauhati High Court. The other is Judicial Officer Helen Dawngliani from Mizoram.
Mozhui and Dawngliani were recommended for appointment by the Supreme Court Collegium on August 18. The Union government cleared the proposal on September 8 and issued the notification for their appointment.
With the appointment, Nagaland has two judges serving in the Gauhati High Court, the other being Justice Yarenjungla Longkumer, who was appointed an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on February 17, 2025.
She is currently the Station Judge of the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench.
The Gauhati High Court has jurisdiction over Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh. The notification also announced the appointment of three judicial officers namely Santosh Sharma, Sushma Sawant and Sudhir Kumar as Judges of the Chhattisgarh High Court.
