‘Naga army fully behind Gen. Khole, N Kitovi’

DIMAPUR, JULY 3 (MExN): The GPRN/NSCN has informed that a number of Naga Army commanders in various GPRN/NSCN Designated Camps and other units have ridiculed the statements issued recently by Maj. Gen. Niki Sumi wherein, he gave an impression that he was in charge and in control of all GPRN/NSCN Designated Camps as well as various mobile commands.
“GPRN/NSCN Chairman Gen. Khole Konyak has been the Commander-in-Chief of Naga Army for more than thirty years but he never tried barking orders through the media for he knew soldiers do not necessarily conform to what one General says in a newspaper”, stated a press note from the GHQ Naga Army, GPRN/NSCN issued through the MIP.
Stating that for the Naga Army, the issue at hand was greater than any general, it went on to point out that the “haphazard statement was issued to create a ripple within the ranks of Naga Army and civil administration in the GPRN/NSCN”. “Yet the Naga Army is moulded from a 60 year old Indo-Naga political struggle so any military statement issued without trust and confidence of the Naga Army will be a mere paper statement”, it stated. According to the GPRN/NSCN the following Naga Army Military commanders at different designated Camps have rejected the claims of Gen. Niki Sumi issued recently.
Samphure Designated Camp: Mr. Chipongse Sangtam, Tatar and Supervisor of the GPRN/NSCN Samphure Designated Camp, Commander Lt. Col. Lhokishe Sumi, 2nd i/c Maj Chumatho Pochury and Office i/c Maj. Shikaho Sumi have reaffirmed that all officers and men at the Samphure Designated camp are firmly behind Chairman Gen. Khole and Gen. Secy. N Kitovi Zhimomi.
Athibung Designated Camp: Naga Army Athibung Designated camp, UT II Supervisor Dy. Kilonser, Luna Chongloi and commander Lt. Col Atoshe Sumi and all their men have denounced the statement made by Maj. Gen Niki Sumi and conveyed strong support to the leadership of Chairman Gen. Khole Konyak and Gen Secy. N Litovi Zhimomi.
Kuthure/Wangto Designated Camp: Kilonser Yimto Yimchunger, Supervisor of GPRN/NSCN Kuthure/Wangtho Designated camp and Maj. Ato Sumi, officiating designated Camp Commander have scoffed at the idea of the designated camp belonging to an expelled president. The Designated camp belongs to the GPRN/NSCN and there is no truth in the statement issued by Khaplang’s group. All arms and men are intact and they firmly support the leadership of Chairman Gen. Khole Konyak and Gen. Secy. N Kitovi Zhimomi.
The Naga Army also clarified that Maj. Gen. Niki Sumi was only a 2 i/c of 3rd Brigade, Naga Army, and not a Commander as mentioned in his press release. Lieut. Gen. Nokpao Konyak remains the Commander of 3rd Brigade Naga Army.
