Naga Club celebrates 100 years

The 100 years centenary of the Naga Club was celebrated today under the theme ‘Celebrating Coalescence’ at the Jotsoma Baptist Church Centenary Ground. 

Naga Club President, Krurovi Peseyie, said “Nagas are in need of a journey of change…a journey from the mountain of pride to the plain of humanity, a journey from the valley of oppression and insult to the meadows of respect and joy…”  

Mrinal Talukdar from the Asom Sahitya Sabha called for efforts to move beyond the legacy of distrust and animosity, and enable an atmosphere where Nagas and Assamese can live tohether in harmony as good neighbours.  

Prasielie Pienyü, great grandson of Lt. Rheichalie Pienyii, a founding member and first President of the Naga club, spoke on behalf of the descendents and provided the history on the formation of the Naga club.  

Greetings were also delivered by the Jotsoma Village Council; Kewezü Mero, Former Joint Secretary, Naga Club; N. Changmi, President, Tirap Changlang & Longding Peoples’ Forum; and Nong Youngkuk, President, Naga Council of Upper Assam. Khyomo Lotha, Caretaker of the Naga club (1965-69) spoke on ‘Naga club as I know’.
