Dimapur, November 30 (MExN): The Joint Action Committee of Public Campaign against Antisocial Activities in Dimapur and the Kohima Chamber of Commerce & Industries expressed deep appreciation and support to the joint statement of the NSCN/GPRN, NNC/FGN and GPRN/NSCN to curb crime and rein in erring underground cadres. A message from the committee appended by leaders of the Naga Council of Dimapur and Dimapur Chamber of Commerce was received.
The message said “the firm determination to deal with rampant harassment of public by demand notes, threats, kidnapping, extortion, rape, intimidation of all kinds perpetrated by quasi-cadres and erring cadres has come as a Festivity gift to the public when such antisocial acts are at its height in Dimapur.”
All civil, business, non-governmental organization and the public welcome the joint statement, the committee said.
The committee had asked the public that they can now promptly report “incidents of undue harassments” to the highest authorities “without hesitation so that action may be enforced to uphold the mechanism to restore order gradually.”
The Kohima Chamber of Commerce & Industries also welcomed the groups’ declaration to curb extortion and other crimes and take action against erring underground cadres. The declaration is “much to the respite of the business community” the KCCI stated in a note today. The KCCI particularly noted the groups’ declaration which states to “jointly fight against rampant collection of tax, kidnapping, abduction, threats, intimidation, rape and other social evils” and also “to take stringent measures against its own cadres that are involved in criminal acts…” The statement is worthy of all appreciation, the KCCI stated.
The KCCI expresses ‘profound gratitude’ to the signatories of the ‘Naga Concordant’ under the aegis of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation.The organization appealed to the underground groups to eliminate social evils which have been eating away the morale of the people as a whole and even destroying the spirit of the nationalism, KCCI stated that it hoped that the signatories of the ‘Naga Concordant’ will make every effort to implement this decision in letter and spirit and enable the people of Nagaland to enjoy the very spirit of Christmas
