Naga factions urged to exercise restraint

Dimapur, December 30 (MExN): In reaction to the NSCN-Khaplang’s ‘caution notice’ served to the vice president of the Sumi Hoho yesterday, the Sumi Hoho today issued an official statement saying that Kitoho Rotokha, the leader in question, speaks on behalf of the organization and not in personal capacity. “The Sumi Hoho strongly urge the NSCN (K) authority to immediately withdraw their allegation against Vice President in order to maintain congenial atmosphere,” it said. The Sumi Hoho further urged “the factions to have maximum restraint among themselves.”

The organization stated – “The Sumi Hoho have an equal respect to all the factions and always looks forward to unity and peace. The Sumi Hoho’s platform is intact on our part to safeguard the interest and welfare of the Sumi community and whatever decisions arrived at for the welfare of the Sumis were the collective decisions and whatever official statements made by and Sumi Hoho office bearers was on behalf of the Sumi Hoho and not personal, therefore, the recent press allegation against Sumi Hoho Vice President, Kitoho S. Rotokha by NSCN (K) was unfounded and baseless.”

In the statement, the Sumi Hoho has informed of an executive council meeting on January 5, 2012 at 10: 00 AM in Zunheboto to deliberate the issue. All executive members, frontal heads and office bearers are informed to attend the meeting positively.

On the current issue, the Sumi Hoho said that the Sumi Hoho general session on July 15, 2008 had declared Zunheboto district as a “Peace Zone” and the decision was reaffirmed on July 7, 2011. All cadres of the underground factions were asked to withdraw from Zunheboto and immediately return to their respective designated camps, the Sumi Hoho said.

“On 20th July 2011, the Sumi Hoho appealed to the chairman of CFSB/CFMC to fully implement ceasefire ground rules, but inspite of repeated appeals, the cadres of different factions violates the ceasefire ground rules. Therefore, the Sumi Hoho during its general Session (Baghi Hoho) on 9th August 2011 has resolved and appeal to the concern authority to withdraw all the designated camps from Zunheboto District and in response to that the Chairman CFSB/CFMC on 18th August 20-11 made an appeal to Sumi Hoho to cooperate instead of shifting the designated camps form Zunheboto.”

However, the Sumi Hoho stated, when no sign of adhering the cease-fire ground rules appeared, rather escalating the factional clashes, the Sumi Frontal organizations took out a procession on December 27, the ‘hoho’ stated. A representation to the Home Minister of India for the removal of all the designated camps from Zunheboto district was made, the statement said.

“While regretting the recent factional clashes, the Sumi Hoho remind to all the factions that the differences amongst them is rather a narrow approach and will never solve the Naga problems and bloodshed/clashes is not in favour of Sumis and Naga general public,” the organization said.
